Motor Vehicle Registrations

Vehicle registration in New Hampshire must be done at the Town Clerk’s Office in the town in which you reside.

State and Town Fees are calculated on one check. Town fees are a personal property tax and is based on the original list price of the vehicle. State fees are based on the weight of the vehicle. Vehicles are registered in the birth month of the owner. Initially the fees will be pro-rated from the date of registration to the birth month.

Payments may be made by cash, check or online via credit card/ACH (additional fees apply).

Online transactions are limited to vehicle renewals only.  First time registrations must be done in person with the Town Clerk.  Online payment for vehicle renewals is available here.

If you are a new Madbury resident you must provide proof of residency.  This can be done with a utility bill, lease agreement, a letter from the homeowner, or a verification of property ownership which can be done by the Town Clerk.

Registrations and safety inspections are done annually. (State Vehicle Inspections are required until January 31st 2026.)

State fees for vehicle renewals and other transactions will increase as of January 1st, 2026.
